For the 5th year in a row, Clifton has earned a No Place for Hate campus designation. This year our campus was more collaborative in our activities. We began with a discussion about communities, how we are a community full of people with various strengths, and when we work together, our community is stronger. We talked about strategies for being an upstander, rather than a bystander, when we see hateful actions. We had an event focused on respectful disagreement, with strategies for staying calm, active listening, and i-statements. We had a day where students visited another Clifton classroom, to see what students in that class do. We played getting to know you bingo, signed a Resolution of Respect, shared Pies for Peace, and did several other fun activities, including the hand collage that is at the top of this webpage. Our goal is for Clifton to be a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued. We encourage our students take their learning with them wherever they go, helping to make the world a better place.
Austin ISD will be holding a Budget Community Conversations series of public meetings April 26 and 27 to inform the public on the proposed 2017-18 budget.
Join the live, interactive broadcast April 27 from 6–7:30 p.m. from the comfort of your home or participate online!
Tune in online at AISD.TV, channel 22, on Roku or on AT&T U-verse channel 99. Chief Financial Officer Nicole Conley Johnson will present the preliminary AISD budget, and the community will be able to ask the CFO questions via Twitter, email or phone.
In addition to the broadcast, the district will hold two meetings during the day. The first meeting is 1–2 p.m. April 26 at the AISD Performing Arts Center. The second is 1–2 p.m. April 27 at the Baker Center cafeteria.

Spring has sprung here at Clifton CDS! Our students have prepared and planted a thriving garden that is now soaking up the spring rains. Among the crops: corn, beans, and squash (known as the Three Sisters in Native American cultures). We have also planted peppers, watermelon, zinnias, sunflowers, and even cotton!
Our honeybees enjoyed the mild winter and are now working overtime to keep North Austin pollenated. We hope to harvest honey sometime this summer- we will keep you posted.
In other news, we are happy to report progress on our latest venture: Clifton Gourmet Mushrooms. Clifton students have been cultivating beautiful and nutritious Oyster Mushrooms, which we have been using in our horticulture, hospitality, and culinary programs, as well as selling to one of our community partners, Austin Farm to Table. You can support our mushroom growing project here.
You can check out these and more of our horticultural adventures at our next plant sale on Saturday April 22. This will be our last greenhouse sale of the season and will be a fundraiser for the Clifton Health Science Program. So come get some plants for your own garden and support the most unique, innovative, and inspiring school in the ATX: Clifton Career Development School!
Animal Science finished up their competition season in January. The final event was the Travis County Youth Show where one of our students took the Blue Ribbon in her class. One of our students Ag Mechanics has been up to some amazing adventures. The first years have started to learn the in’s and out’s of cutting and operating the cutting torch. Including, all of the safety factors that go into setting up and disassembling. Cutting is an art that they are just beginning master and they are doing extremely well. The second and third year kids are deep into their projects. They plan and execute the projects themselves. This year we have some amazing projects in the works. One of the coolest is a water fountain. Another one is a coffee table that is held up by chains. Some of the other projects include a wine rack, fire pit, chess set, and a rustic chair just to name a few.
And don't forget, you can support our program by donating with EdBacker.
