Clifton Career Development School |
Spring has sprung here at Clifton CDS! Our students have prepared and planted a thriving garden that is now soaking up the spring rains. Among the crops: corn, beans, and squash (known as the Three Sisters in Native American cultures). We have also planted peppers, watermelon, zinnias, sunflowers, and even cotton!
Our honeybees enjoyed the mild winter and are now working overtime to keep North Austin pollenated. We hope to harvest honey sometime this summer- we will keep you posted. In other news, we are happy to report progress on our latest venture: Clifton Gourmet Mushrooms. Clifton students have been cultivating beautiful and nutritious Oyster Mushrooms, which we have been using in our horticulture, hospitality, and culinary programs, as well as selling to one of our community partners, Austin Farm to Table. You can support our mushroom growing project here. You can check out these and more of our horticultural adventures at our next plant sale on Saturday April 22. This will be our last greenhouse sale of the season and will be a fundraiser for the Clifton Health Science Program. So come get some plants for your own garden and support the most unique, innovative, and inspiring school in the ATX: Clifton Career Development School!
